The system can be configured to allow different types of directed picking to optimize warehouse operations.
Three Methods for Picking Orders
- Single Pick - This directs a user to pick a single order at a time.
- Zone Picking - When an order crosses multiple zones, the same order can be picked by multiple users who have access to different zones
- Orders can be pushed to the tablets by forcing the user to enter an order number or automatically assigning the next available order
- Orders can be picked with or without a cart being assigned to the order
- Batch Pick - This directs a user to pick multiple orders at one time. A batch consists of a group of orders assigned to be picked to a specific Cart Type. Within the Batch, each Order is assigned a specific Cart Compartment. Batch Picking requires both a Pick and a Put to be performed. Inventory is picked from the shelf location and then put into the cart compartment
- Cell Pick - This is a single-step Pick and Pack operation. A Batch consists of a group of Orders that can be fully picked from the locations assigned to a Cell. Orders are presented one-at-a-time like in Single Pick with a confirmation screen to complete the packing process between orders.
General Notes About Picking Operations
- Once an order line is downloaded to a tablet, it becomes locked to that device. A locked line will have the status In Process and will not be available for other devices. A supervisor may reset this locked status so that a different device can pull in the order or batch previously locked to another device
- Click Reset In Process on the Edit Order page of the particular order to reset the In Process status of a single order
- Click Reset In Process on the Edit Batch page to reset the In Process status of all orders on the batch and the batch itself
- Areas can be used to force orders to be picked from a certain area within the warehouse. The order must be created with an assigned Area and the Area Allocation method set
- While orders can be picked to a cart, the cart does not actually hold inventory. Inventory is removed from the system as soon as the pick is completed. The order lines are assigned to the cart until they are cleared through a packing or verify operation, but these order lines do not constitute inventory in the WarehouseOS system
- WarehouseOS allows for several fields on the order header or detail lines, but only a small number of fields are required to perform a pick
- Order Number
- Order Status (defaulted to Available but must be provided)
- Order Detail Lines:
- Item
- Quantity
- Pick Location (assigned during allocation, provided by an item's Home Location, or provided by the host system during order creation)
- Orders are the only object within WarehouseOS that is picked from a location. In cases where customers want to work with Transfer Orders, Work Orders, or other types of orders that would need to be picked off the shelf, all order types come into WOS as an Order and will flow through the same processes.
- The other way to remove inventory from the system is by performing a Pull transaction in the Manage Inventory app in the WOS Operations app.
