Batch Build (Beta) is where orders are grouped into batches so they can be picked. There are 3 types of batches that can be created and they relate to the type of picking that will be performed

  • Standard Batches - Used in Batch Picking and packed in either Packing or Verify. These are assigned to Cart Types.
  • PackOne Batches - Used in Batch Picking and packed in the PackOne app. These are assigned to the Cart Type "PackOne"
  • Cell Pick Batches - Used in Cell Picking. These are assigned to a Cell Group

Unassigned Orders

The Unassigned Orders grid shows all the orders that are Available, not already assigned to a Cart Type or Cell Group, and has a Pick Method that allows batching (All or BatchPickOnly).

Note: Orders in a Hold status will now show up in the Unassigned grid and must be found and released from the Hold status in the Orders page.

Orders in the unassigned grid can be filtered to identify orders that should be batched together. The selection of filters can be saved as a Saved Filter to speed up assigning the same filters again in the future.

Note: To simplify the process, a Cart Type or Cell Group can be saved as part of the saved filters. After assigning all of the filters in the grid, go to the bottom and select the Cart Type or Cell Group associated with the group of orders. Saving that combination into a Saved Filter will retrieve not only the filters for the orders, but will also assign the Cart Type or Cell Group selection.

Filter by Eligibility

All batch types are created from the same page. Three columns help determine the eligibility of an order.

  • PackOne Batch: Only orders with a single line item are eligible for PackOne batches. These must be batched into the Cart Type "PackOne" to be eligible for the PackOne picking and packing processes.
  • Cell Pick Batch: Only orders that can be fully picked from within a Cell are eligible for Cell Pick baches. The Cell Groups which contain all of the items on the order are displayed in the Cell Groups column. These must be batched into a Cell Group to be eligible for the Cell Pick process.
  • Full Order Zone Batch:  Instead of an Eligibility column, orders that can be fully picked within a zone marked as a Full Order Zone will show the Zone names in the Full order Zones column.  Select the Assign to Full Order Zone option when batching to have these orders reallocated to the specified zone
Note: All orders are eligible for a Standard batch. For simplicity, there isn't a column to indicate this eligibility. After batching for specialized batches like Cell Pick, PackOne, etc, all remaining orders can be assigned and batched into a Cart Type for standard batch picking

Filter by Item

Instead of simply saying "(Multiple)", the Unassigned grid shows all items on the order. This allows orders to be filtered for a particular item so they can be batched together for more efficient picking.

  1. Lengthen the Item column to see as much as the list of items as desired
  2. Click on the filter for Item and enter the desired item number
  3. The grid will be filtered for the desired item and they can be batched together

Filter by Item Category

The Item Master record contains a Category field.  All of the categories for the items on the order will be summarized and displayed in the Item Category column in the Unassigned grid.  This allows for orders to be filtered by categories or "types" of products, as configured on the Item Master record.

Filter by Item Bundle

The Unassigned grid will also show Item Bundles that can be linked back to the order.  Instead of only showing Item Bundles that were used to create the orders, all of the Item Bundles where all of the components are found on the order will be shown.  This will enable similar order profiles, even if not originally ordered as a bundle, to be grouped and picked together

Pick Sequence and Pick Sequence Magnitude

The Pick Sequence column will show the lowest pick sequence on the order.

For PackOne eligible orders, this is the only pick location and allows orders being picked from the same or near locations to be grouped together into more efficient batching

For other orders, this is the starting point when picking that batch.  Using this column will pull together orders that all start in the same place.

The Pick Sequence Magnitude column shows how far through the pick sequence the order goes to pick the first and last order.  The smaller the number, the smaller the distance must be traveled to pick the entire order.  The larger the number, the farther the distance to pick the entire order.

Together, the Pick Sequence and Pick Sequence Magnitude can be used to group orders that start in the same palce and are picked in a small footprint, allowing for more efficient picking.

Note: The actual meaning of the Pick Sequence Magnitude column will depend on the specific layout. A pick face with 4 tiers and 10 locations per tier could show a larger Pick Sequence Magnitude than a pallet storage with only 2 locations in the same space. This column is only based on the difference between the largest and smallest Pick Sequence number, not on the actual distance between locations.

Each WarehouseOS site will need to get used to the meaning of the Pick Sequence Magnitude within their setup for it to be truly meaningful.

Assign and Batch Buttons

Once the grid is filtered or order lines are selected, there are two options on what to do next.

  • Assign - This will assign the selected Cart Type or Cell Group to the orders. The orders will then be displayed in the Assigned grid for further filtering. Batches are not created
    • Clicking Assign will show the Cart Type or Cell Group selected and the number of filtered orders.
    • Save Selected will assign the selection only to the orders that were highlighted in the grid
    • Save Filtered will assign the selection to all the filtered orders
  • Batch - This will assign the selected Cart Type or Cell Group and batch the orders
    • Clicking Batch will show the Cart Type or Cell Group selected, the number of orders that were filtered, and the number of possible batches using the selected assignment.
    • Save Selected will assign the selection only to the orders that were highlighted in the grid
    • Save Filtered will assign the selection to all the filtered orders
    • Additional options will be made available depending on the Cart Type or Cell Group selection.
      • Number of Batches will automatically select enough orders from the filtered list to create the specified number of batches
      • PackOne Batch Size can change the default batch size when creating PackOne batches

Assigned Orders

Orders that were assigned a Cart Type or Cell Group but were not batched will display in the Assigned Orders grid. From here, orders can be filtered further and then batched to their assigned selection. This grid functions very similar to the Unassigned Orders grid with a few exceptions:

  • Eligibility columns are not visible and are replaced with an Assigned To column to show which Cart Type or Cell Group the order has been assigned to
  • The Unassign and Batch buttons will provide a Save Selected or Save Filtered option, but additional options on changing the batch sizes or creating a specific number of batches are not available
  • The Batch button can be performed against all filtered orders, even if they have different assignment. The orders will be grouped by the Assigned To column and batched into their assigned CartType or Cell Group
  • Assigned Orders has a set of Saved Filters that are distinct from the Unassigned Orders grid. This allows for deeper filtering that is unique from the orders before they become Assigned
