Pack One Intro

Pack One is an efficient method of picking and packing single line orders. Orders can have multiple quantities but only have one line item to qualify as a Pack One. The process is designed to be very quick and easy.  During picking, the items do not need to be organized into compartments, because the order-item relationship is 1:1, Pack One batches are designed to be picked into a bin or shopping cart because the compartment assignments are non-essential.

During Packing, the User will simply grab items from the cart and scan to pull up the first order with that item. They will continue until all items are gone and orders are packed. Packing these batches can be done with as little toggling and device interaction as possible, making this process exceedingly quick and efficient.

The PackOne app lives inside the Packing App. When the Group settings are properly configured the User will have access to the PackOne app. When a PackOne Cart or Batch is Scanned, Packing will automatically enter PackOne mode.

Packing Process

On entering the Packing app, the User will be prompted to scan a Cart, Batch, or Order.

The app will enter PackOne mode if the scan matches one of the criteria below:

  • The Cart contains a complete PackOne batch
  • The Batch is a complete PackOne batch
  • The Order is a part of a complete PackOne batch

Print Stations

A Print Station must be selected to continue with PackOne if auto-printing is enabled. If a Print Station has not been selected for the Device, the User will be prompted to select one to use. If the Print Station needs to be changed after selection with the pop up, this can be done by tapping on the printer icon at the top left of the screen.

After selecting a Print Station, or if one has previously been selected on the Device, the Batch will populate on the screen with an overview of the Order Numbers, Item, Quantity, Pick Status, Ship Method, Box, Print Docs, and Order Notes.

Box Selection

To set a Bulk Box Type, a User can tap the Bulk Assign Box button.

Users are technically able to select or edit the Box Type while packing the individual orders, but only before the order is Packed Complete. This means that orders with a quantity of 1 will not be able to be assigned or edited after the item is scanned to pull up and pack the order.  Assigning Box Types is most often best to do in bulk from the Pack List view.

Here they can select which Orders they want to assign a Box Type for. These orders can be specifically selected, or the User can tap on the Select All or Select Unassigned buttons.

Once the orders have been selected, the User can choose a pre-set Box Type or enter Custom Dimensions.

Box types only need to be assigned if the shipping integration requires it. When orders are set to pre-generate labels there is no requirement to select a box type and can be turned off in the group settings.

Packing Process

To begin packing the cart, the User may either scan an item off the cart or select a specific order from the list.

If an item is scanned off the cart, the system finds the first order in the list that has that item. Below the item scanned was a "Peach", which pulled up Order 2501. Order 2501 is a request for a Qty of 1. Since the quantity is met with a single scan, the order is immediately verified and shows highlighted green on the screen.

Other information displayed on the packing screen is an Order Barcode that can be used to scan into the shipping system if needed, and the Order header information and Notes listed in the bottom left corner. If the Force Show Order Notes setting is on for the user, when the item is scanned this packing page is first opened up, any note will pop up to be recognized before moving on from the order.

At the top right of the screen is a number that represents the amount of orders left on the batch waiting to be packed. In this example, there were 6 orders left in the batch until order 2501 was scanned and packed, now there are only 5 orders remaining. When that number reaches 0, the batch has been completely packed.

The cursor will remain in the Scan Item box, so after an order has been scanned and packed the User can immediately scan the next item when they are ready to continue.

For orders that have a quantity greater than 1, the highlighted color will stay yellow until the expected quantity of items has been scanned. The order below has an expected Quantity of 3 and was fully picked, so the User will need to scan 3 peaches to complete and verify the order. The highlight will turn green once this happens.

Select a Specific Order to Verify

At any time, the User may chose to verify a specific Order, by tapping a specific line in the Order List screen.

If the group setting Allow Tap Selection is turned OFF the order information is displayed as usual, but without verifying the order until the item is scanned.

If Allow Tap Selection is turned ON when the order is selected from the Pack list, it counts as an item scan and verifies the order.

Additional Functionality

Pack One provides the User with numerous tools to manage the packing/shipping operation in the event of mistakes or problems. Examples of this could be insufficient inventory, damaged product, incorrect picks etc. With anomalies in mind, the Pack One app provides features to help Users account for these scenarios without too much slowdown during the packing process.

Left-Swipe Functions

The dots on the far right of screen is an indicator of additional functionality with a swipe left.

A left-swipe on any of the Orders will expose six functions split into view options and actions.

View options:

  • Order Info - popup with order information like customer name, ship to country, and custom field values
  • Order Barcode - barcode popup for order number
  • Order Notes - shows any notes on the order

Action Buttons:

  • Flag
  • UnBatch Order
  • UnPack Order - this action is only visible on orders that have been packed

Flag

Orders can be Flagged to report a problem with the Order. To Flag an Order, the User must select a quantity and a Reason Code. Adding a note is optional. When an item on an order is flagged a few things happen:

  • The flagged quantity is removed from the Picked quantity on the app and is no longer available to be packed
  • The picked quantity on the Order Edit page is updated to reflect a short pick of the flagged quantity
  • A ReportedPickError record is added to the History Log with the flagged quantity, order, reason code, and notes

UnBatch Order

When an order arrives at Packing with a short pick or damaged inventory, there may be instances where the User cannot ship the order. An option is to remove the order from the batch so it can be picked and shipped at a later date once resolved.

The Unbatch Order function prompts the User for a confirmation, prior to removing the specified Order from the Batch. The Reset Picks function is executed on the Order. The Order is now Available to be assigned to a new Batch and picked at a later date.

 UnPack Order

The UnPack function undoes an Order which has been Packed/Verified. The inventory removed from the Cart during the pack is placed back on the Cart and the orders available to be packed again. A PackOne trigger is sent with a Status of Unverified.

The Order is now available to be re-Verified, removed from the Batch, or removed from the Cart,

Note: Order(s) eligible for Undo, are highlighted in green since they have already been packed. In order to view these toggle the Packed Orders visibility in the top right corner.
